The four children for whom he had a dream were between the ages of 6 and 12 when he was assassinated in Memphis in 1968. While the nation mourned the loss of a great man, in many ways, his family suffered the loss of something much greater. We know he was a life long brilliant orator with a passion for reading and scholarship. But it's worth contemplating how much his role as a father shaped his unrelenting desire for change. Nearly 50 years after his death, his words still give power and meaning to many chapters of our lives, parenthood included.
